The money you pay for this software does not go to million-dollar Corporation X and its advertising budget. It goes directly to the humble source, the designer & programmer who created the software; me. Let me say it again, software is created. It doesn’t fall out of the sky or grow on a tree. It isn’t found lying around… People like me craft it. That doesn’t happen overnight.
I spent 2 years designing, programming and fine-tuning SpaceAlert and SpaceServer. It took plenty of little notes scribbled on napkins while at restaurants, note pads with drawings and flow charts, ideas written in word processors and computer paintings of what things should look like. Months of my free time were spent at the computer testing, re-designing and fine tuning the code. Pieces were added in to make things easy, chunks were taken out because I could do better. Days and nights were spent reading Inside Macintosh books and other manuals with the promise that eventually I would understand it all and use it right. That was all part of the development process for this software.
Despite the fact that on AOL alone about 1,000 downloads of SpaceAlert version 1.5 were made within 4 months, and notwithstanding the high 4 out of 5 rating given to SpaceServer 1.5 by ZiffNet/Mac (MacUser On-Line), I received only 3 checks for those versions of these unique programs.
So who am I anyway? Why did I do it? I am just someone trying to make ends meet, I am not rich. Like any working person I have bills to pay. The rent, electricity, phone service, car insurance, student loans, food and clothing all require money. I believe 10 dollars is a fair price for SpaceAlert. I also think $31 ($21 SA + $10 SS) is a small price to pay for an unlimited site license to use both SpaceAlert and SpaceServer at your company. It isn’t much money but it helps me a lot.
You now have my finished work. I trust and hope you’ll do YOUR part; pay the shareware fee. I’m counting on YOU.
